Hindu temple gets go-ahead from Strathfield Council

Feb 21, 2012
Phalgun Shukla Pratipada, Kaliyug Varsha 5113

A HINDU temple has been approved for Homebush despite a Strathfield Council committee deciding in December to defer the matter for six months.
The council’s planning committee deferred a decision on the temple proposed for 123 The Crescent in December to “allow further consideration”. The committee wanted traffic issues and “antisocial behaviour of worshippers at the temple” to be investigated.
But a council report said the decision was “likely to be unreasonable” because the committee had to make “decisions based on the information provided”.
The matter was referred back to the council because of a potential appeal to the Land and Environment Court and council officers’ original recommendation for approval. The existing property will be demolished to make way for the temple., which will include an open courtyard with five shrines.
The hours of operation would be 7am-1pm and 4.15pm-pm every day.
The daily prayers would take place four times a day from 7am to 7pm.
Up to 20 people would attend daily prayers, with up to 50 people attending major events at the temple.
