Blessings in the form of a message by Jagatguru Shankaracharya Swami Jayendra Saraswati on the occasion of proposed ‘Hindu Dharmajagruti Sabha’ at Virginia
1. History of ‘Virginia’ city: ‘Vargenia’ is a Sanskrit word. Earlier, the city was split in 8 parts which were later dissolved into a small city and was named as ‘Virginia’. Our religion is ‘Vaidik Sanatan Hindu Dharma’. ‘Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinaha’ and ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ are two prayers in Hindu Dharma. Same meaning is derived from these prayers and that is, there was only one Sanatan Hindu Dharma prevailing in the world. Over the period, its condition deteriorated and presently, it has become very weak.
2. History of ‘California and ‘Russia’: California is a city where Kapil Maharshi had undertaken penance. People came there for River Ganga from ‘Sagarputra loka’ and therefore, it is called as ‘Kapilaranya’ that later became ‘California’. We find symbols used in Hindu Dharma all over the world. The residence of the Sage Kapil came to be known as ‘Russia’.
3. Reasons for foundation of other religions like Christianity, Islam and Buddhism: Buddhism was introduced in Japan. Buddhism originated from Hindu Dharma. Muslims do not adopt Christianity and Christians do not convert to Islam; but only Hindus convert to these religions. There were Hindus all over the world; but they converted to Christianity, Islam or Buddhism. Our Dharma is spread world-wide.
4. A French astrologer has predicted that Vaidik Sanatan Hindu Dharma is on the threshold of spreading all over the world: There was an astrologer in France who predicted that religions like Islam, Christianity and Buddhism will be eradicated in 20 years. Vaidik Sanatan Hindu Dharma will spread all over the world. A supreme being will take birth in Southern India. Considering the present condition, many people have stopped going to church and are following various spiritual paths like meditation, bhajan, keertans etc. and are thus, coming under the aegis of Vaidik Sanatan Hindu Dharma. Hindu Dharma was prevalent all over the world. Even now, in a country like Greece, Hindu Dharma is getting re-established. Our nation and Dharma was an undivided Bharat pervading the world.
5. Organization of ‘Hindu Dharnma-jagruti Sabha’ at Virginia in USA by ‘Forum for Hindu Awakening’ in association with Sanatan Sanstha and Hindu Janajagruti Sanstha: I was happy to know that ‘Forum for Hindu Awakening’ in association with Sanatan Sanstha and Hindu Janajagruti Sanstha has organized ‘Hindu Dharmajagruti Sabha’ on Ashadha Kru. 11, Kaliyuga Varsha 5111 (18.7.2009). Let everyone become a follower of Sanatan Vaidik Dharma and let this Dharma and Indian culture regain its past glory. Acquire Sree Guru’s grace and lead a blessed life. Dear devotees of the Lord,
Please accept my due respect and blessings from my spiritual master, His Divine Grace Srila Bhakti Promode Puri Goswami Maharaj and accept the same of my grand spiritual master, His Divine Grace Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Goswami Thakur Prabhupada and convey the same to all your associates.
I am very happy to see your endeavour to establish persons into the practice of Sanatana Dharma. Let me share with you my understanding of Sanatana Dharma.
Sanatana means ‘eternal’ and Dharma means ‘natural tendency’. In brief, we can say that Sanatana Dharma means “our eternal natural tendency”. On this earth, the things we gaze upon with our eyes are material; nothing material is eternal. We can understand, however, that material things are valuable, in as much as they help us establish our eternal nature. For example, our body is material and our soul is eternal. The soul is connected with the Super Soul, Sri Bhagavan. God gives us intelligence to help us establish our eternal nature. If we apply our intelligence we can see that our nature is to serve. When we serve material things we don’t get permanent result because they may be destroyed today or tomorrow, but when we serve spiritual things which are connected with our spirit we are following our eternal nature, which brings us happiness eternally. With our intelligence we should seek out the association of those who can help us establish our eternal nature. This Sanatana Dharma conference is representing such association.
Although the nature of water is liquid, but we can see that as an effect of external influence, at certain temperatures water becomes ice, it becomes solid. We can also see that the same water by the influence of heat becomes vapour in certain temperatures. The nature of water is liquidity; and at normal conditions the ice will melt and again become liquid, the vapour will condense and regain it’s liquid quality.
In a similar way, due to the influence of present day societies, the human beings have lost their eternal nature; instead of establishing their service mood towards God, they are establishing service to their senses. This is the root cause of distress. This Sanatana Dharma conference should help us to remember our true identity and our eternal nature, which will allow all human beings to be happy eternally. After establishing happiness, we find there is love; where there is love there is peace and bliss. I am praying to my Lords, Sri Sri Radha Krishna, to establish eternal love, bliss and happiness within the Sanatana Dharma Foundation, within all human beings and all living entities.
According to Vedic teachings, the way to awaken our natural blissful state is to invoke sincerely the Holy Names of the Lord. The names of the Lord are non-different from the Lord Himself, and as the Lord is unlimited so are His Names, and we cry out those names according to our faith and understanding differently.
The Brihat Naradiya Purana instructs us:
harer nama harer nama harer nama eva kevalam
kalau nasty eva nasty eva nasty eva gatir anyatha
“In this age of quarrel and hypocrisy, the only means of deliverance is the chanting of the Holy Names of the Lord. There is no other way. There is no other way. There is no other way.”

“By chanting this Holy name of Krishna,
hare krishna hare krishna, krishna krishna hare hare
hare rama hare rama, rama rama hare hare,
you’ll get extreme pleasure, supreme bliss.”
