Protest against denigration of Hindu dharma by www.spiritualfashions.com

March 20, 2015 (Chaitra Krushna Paksha Amavasya, Kaliyug Varsha 5116)

Forum for Hindu Awakening (FHA) appeals devout Hindus to protest against an online store (www.spiritualfashions.com) denigrating Hindu Dharma. The denigration is happening through the sale of products such as Kurtas, T-shirts, Hoodies, etc having images of Hindu Deities and Holy symbols (OM).

Forum for Hindu Awakening promptly wrote to the online store www.spiritualfashions.com, bringing to their attention the nature and ill effects of such denigration. (This letter is published on latter part of this page). However there has been no response.

In light of this, we appeal to you to register your peaceful, but educative and prompt protest against the online store www.spiritualfashions.com. Let us show our solidarity by emailing or calling the store management, asking them to remove the line of products which have the images of Hindu Deities and Holy symbols (OM) from their online store.

Following are the contact details of the online store

Dear Alec Boyer,

We at Forum for Hindu Awakening have received several complaints from devout Hindus regarding the sale of products such as Kurtas, T-shirts, Hoodies, etc having images of Hindu Dieities and Hindu symbols on your website as given below –

Forum for Hindu Awakening is a nonprofit organization that strives to awaken society to the unique spiritual science behind Hindu Dharma concepts and practices, to motivate people to live and preserve them, and to facilitate the spiritual progress of humanity. One of the ways we do this is by addressing misrepresentations of Hinduism. For further details please refer to our website http://forumforhinduawakening.org/.

According to spiritual science, the word, touch, form, taste, fragrance and the energy associated with them coexist. Whenever any image of a Deity or a Divine symbol like Om is used, the Divine Energy also accompanies it. It helps devotees to obtain the Divine or spiritual energy from it. However, when Hindu Deities and symbols are used on items like Kurtas, T-Shirts, Hoodies, etc. they are touched with dirty hands, get thrown around and once old eventually turn up in the waste or trash cans. This amounts to denigration of revered Deities/religious symbols, which is hurtful to the religious sentiments of Hindus and insults Hinduism.

In the current times wherein online shopping is one of the most preferred mode of shopping it is also important that you play a part to serve the society without hurting religious sentiments. We have received several complaints from ardent Hindus regarding these products.

One US based company ‘Om Shanti Clothing’ was selling women’s undergarments on which pictures of Deities were printed. On learning about the matter, the management of the company has rendered apology and has withdrawn such stock from the market.

Well-known German fashion brand “Front Row Society” headquartered in Berlin withdrew leggings carrying an image of Lord Shiva and apologized after upset Hindus protested.

In view of the above we request you to stop advertisement and sale of products with Hindu Deities pictures and Hindu symbols on your website with immediate effect. We hope you will do the needful and revert with the action taken.

Yours Sincerely,
Forum for Hindu Awakening
