Subject: Complaints from Hindus regarding the advertisement of Goddess Lakshmi on your banner!
We at Forum for Hindu Awakening have received several complaints from devout Hindus regarding the advertisement of Goddess Lakshmi on your massage and beauty centre banner as attached.
Forum for Hindu Awakening is a nonprofit organization that strives to awaken society to the unique spiritual science behind Hindu Dharma concepts and practices, to motivate people to live and preserve them, and to facilitate the spiritual progress of humanity. One of the ways we do this is by addressing misrepresentations of Hinduism. For further details please refer to our website http://forumforhinduawakening.org/.
Hindus worship the Divine by placing images of Deities in a puja room and ritualistically worshipping them daily. Such is the respect and devotion that is accorded to the Divine.
In stark contrast, when a Deity is used for money making purposes as in your advertisement for a beauty and massage centre wherein Goddess Lakshmi is depicted along with the photos of massage and beauty treatments, then Her form on your banner is neither honoured nor worshiped. Instead it is left to collect dust from the pollution in the environment. We never treat a photo of a Deity in a puja room in such a manner. This results in the denigration of Goddess Lakshmi, Who is worshipped for prosperity and wealth.
According to spiritual science, the word, touch, form, taste, fragrance and the energy associated with them all coexist. So whenever any image of a Deity is used, the corresponding Divine energy also accompanies it. This helps devotees to obtain Divine or spiritual energy from the image. However, when Hindu Deities are used on items like banners, T-shirts, etc. they may be touched with dirty hands, get casually tossed somewhere and once old eventually end up in the waste bin to be then transported and pitched into a filthy dumping ground where it could be trampled upon.
Such utter disrespect hurts the religious sentiments of Hindus and also results in the overarching denigration of Hinduism. Deities’ images should be used only in sacred places like Temples and that too only for the purpose of worshiping them, and not on banners or any other objects.
We honor and worship the Divine. We do not belittle a Goddess by using Her Divine form for commercial purposes as if she were on par with a mere glamour model, advertising beauty products. We feel that some business enterprises conveniently use the pictures of Hindu Deities to increase their sales and rake in the profits. However, in reality they are actually accruing demerits as disrespecting the Divine is a grave sin and one will have to undergo its consequences. Thus Deities pictures are only to be used at appropriate places for worship and for religious activities. Using it in any other way amounts to denigration and is a sinful act.
Please refer to our website https://forumforhinduawakening.org/dharma/campaigns/ to see our ongoing and successful awareness campaigns against the denigration of Hindu Dharma.
One US based company ‘Om Shanti Clothing’ was selling women’s undergarments on which pictures of Deities were printed. On learning about the matter, the management of the company has rendered an apology and has withdrawn such stock from the market.
A well-known German fashion brand “Front Row Society” headquartered in Berlin withdrew leggings carrying an image of Lord Shiva and apologized after upset Hindus protested.
In view of the above we request you to remove your advertisement of Goddess Lakshmi, on the massage and beauty centre banner, with immediate effect. We hope you will do the needful and revert with the action taken.
