New Jersey, USA. Recently Forum for Hindu Awakening, a nonprofit Hindu organization in USA, has received complaints from several Hindus about a showing of an animation film ‘Sita Sings the Blues’. The film is going to be shown by a Rohan Narine next Thursday in Starlight Pavilion in New York.
Hindus have found almost each scene of the film to be extremely denigrating of their revered Deities like Rama and Sita, with whom Nina Paley has drawn irreverent parallels from her own heartbreak. The film claims to be based on the Hindus’ holy scripture ‘Ramayan’, when in reality, it is a parody on the sacred epic. Animator Nina Paley has in the past disregarded protests by over 8500 Hindus, showing her complete insensitivity to the Hindu sentiment and malicious intent in making this film. Hindus are now writing to Rohan Narine and Starlight Pavilion to cancel the showing.
Forum for Hindu Awakening has urged Rohan Narine and Starlight Pavilion to show sensitivity to the Hindu sentiment and cancel the showing. However, neither of them has responded. This has left Hindus no option but to intensify the protests. Hinduism supporters will be staging demonstrations outside the show and are calling for a boycott of Starlight Pavilion.
