Hindu idols desecrated in Sirajganj

It is not clear as to who are behind the incident

Miscreants have desecrated six idols of Hindu goddesses in a temple of Rayganj upazila, Sirajganj.

The idols of Lakshmi, Saraswati, Ganesh, Kartik in Pangashi Kalimata temple were desecrated sometime in the early hours of Thursday, officials said.

Raiganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Firoz Shah and police station Officer-in-Charge Anis Ahmed visited the temple around 9am on Thursday morning.

The temple’s steering committee President Praful Chandra Das said the idols were found desecrated in the morning. “The idols were smashed and spread across the temple.”

Raiganj police station OC Anis Ahmed said six idols were desecrated. “The incident is suspicious. We are looking into the incident. Preparations are on to file a case.”

The official did not specify as to who might be behind the incident or what could have been the motivation for such atrocities.
