Bangalore, June 12 (TruthDive): Art of Living (AOL) founder Sri Sri Ravi Shankar has revealed that AOL Pakistan’s faculty members and volunteers are under threat from Pakistan Taliban, who has told them to leave their country at the earliest.
The Bangalore-based Art of Living founder claimed that letters and calls have been coming to his staff and volunteers from the Pakistan Taliban for past two months. The Pakistan Taliban accuses the Art of Living staff and volunteers of working against Islam.
Sri Sri said that the Pakistan authorities have been informed about the threats the Art of Living members have received from the Pak Taliban. The calls first began after gunmen burnt down Art of Living centre on March 8. The Art of Living centre was located in Bani-Gala, a town on the outskirts of Islamabad.
The statement from the founder said, for the last 13 years, as part of stress management techniques, yoga and breathing, the organization was purely secular and nothing to do with any religion. The Pakistan centre has 10,000 members.
The Art of Living has taken care to be extremely sensitive to religious sentiments while operating in Pakistan and other Muslim countries and majority of Muslims have no complaints to this, it said.
Many Pakistanis have come to the Indian Art of Living centre regularly and good-will delegations between both countries have visited each other in an effort to bring the people of both countries closer and to start a peace building process, it said.
An Art of Living office bearer in Kerala had a disturbing experience which led him to shut down his office. He started a yoga and breathing exercises class for his employees. The Labour department was informed through an anonymous letter that he is doing this to convert the staff and others to Hinduism. Sensing a problem and not wanting to get involved, he closed down the office and shifted it to his home.
